Spring Down Cushion Construction
Why Spring Down Cushion Construction? What are the advantages?
Layers Explained
- Core: Encased Coil Springs
- At the heart of the cushion lies a core made of individually wrapped coil springs (similar to pocket springs used in high-quality mattresses).
- These coils offer structural support and ensure the cushion maintains its shape over time, preventing sagging.
- Foam Layer
- Surrounding the spring core is a layer of high-density foam. This foam adds firmness and stability, preventing you from feeling the individual springs while sitting.
- Down-Proof Cotton Ticking
- A tightly woven, down-proof fabric is used to encase the foam and spring layers, ensuring that feathers or down do not poke through the fabric.
- Down and Feather Blend Wrap
- The outermost layer consists of a blend of down and feathers (typically an 80% feather to 20% down ratio).
- This layer is soft and plush, providing that luxurious "sink-in" feel when you first sit down. The blend strikes a balance between softness and durability, as down alone would be too soft to offer proper support.
- Protective Fabric Cover
- Finally, the entire cushion is wrapped in the upholstery fabric or leather of your choice. This fabric can vary based on the design preferences, further influencing the comfort and longevity of the cushion.
Advantages of Spring Down Cushions
Superior Comfort and Support:
- The combination of spring coils and down creates the perfect balance between softness and support. You get the initial plush feel of the down wrap, followed by the responsive support from the spring core.
Shape Retention:
- Thanks to the springs in the core, the cushion returns to its original shape more easily than a typical down or foam cushion. This prevents flattening over time, reducing the need for constant fluffing.
Durability:
- The coil springs distribute weight evenly across the cushion, reducing wear and tear on the foam and fabric layers. This makes spring down cushions long-lasting and ideal for high-traffic areas.
Reduced Sagging:
- Pure down cushions can lose their shape, while foam cushions can compress over time. Spring down cushions maintain their height and loft longer, combining the best of both materials.
Enhanced Airflow and Temperature Regulation:
- The layers of springs, foam, and down allow for better air circulation, making the cushions less likely to retain heat compared to solid foam.
Luxurious Aesthetic:
- Spring down cushions give furniture a high-end, tailored look. Their ability to retain shape ensures that sofas and chairs always look full and polished, enhancing the overall appearance.
Care for Fine Wood Finishes
- Dust with a soft, clean cloth slightly moistened with water, and dry completely with another clean cloth, always rubbing with the grain.
- Avoid contact with cigarettes, hot dishes, and harsh solvents such as nail polish, alcohol and moisture.
- Use pads beneath accessories and when writing or eating.
- Remove spills and smudges immediately
- Do not leave pliable plastic materials on a wood surface; they can damage the finish.
- Do not place furniture near heat outlets, windows, or in direct sunlight.
